RealSense, which develops AI-powered camera vision technology, announced it has spun out of Intel and garnered a $50 million Series A funding round alongside a strategic partnership with NVIDIA to speed up the adoption of physical AI in humanoids and autonomous mobile robots.
WHAT IT DOES
The company develops computer vision systems for robotics for various sectors, including healthcare, industrial automation, security and "tech for good" initiatives.
RealSense's products include its depth cameras, which the company says are "embedded in 60% of the world’s AMRs [autonomous mobile robots] and 80% of humanoid robots."
Its D555 depth camera, enabled by the company's Vision SoC V5 and featuring Power over Ethernet (PoE), includes embedded vision technology and edge AI capabilities.
RealSense touts that it partners with numerous companies, including Eyesynth, which makes smartglasses for blind individuals.
The company also reiterated its partnership with NVIDIA in a statement. The collaboration was initially announced in August.
The pair aim to accelerate the adoption and abilities of physical AI in humanoids and robots by integrating RealSense's cameras into NVIDIA's robotics platforms.
The companies said the integration will include cameras put into the NVIDIA Jetson Thor Series for robot run-time computing, NVIDIA Isaac Sim for digital twins and NVIDIA Holoscan Sensor Bridge for ultra-low-latency sensor streaming.
"Our mission is to enable the world to integrate robotics and AI in everyday life safely," Nadav Orbach, CEO of RealSense, said in a statement.
"We’re building systems that remove danger and drudgery from human work, amplifying human potential with intelligent, secure and reliable vision systems. With fresh investment, seasoned leadership and our collaboration with NVIDIA, RealSense is shaping the future of intelligent machines."
MARKET SNAPSHOT
Last year, physical therapy software and EMR company WebPT announced it was partnering with Intel to integrate its RealSense PT Metrics into the WebPT EMR platform for physical therapy providers.
RealSense PT Metrics is an AI-enabled, data-driven kiosk that tracks and analyzes a patient's movement, posture and range of motion, and directs patients through their physical therapy routines.
The companies said the platform will be integrated into WebPT's EMR system, allow for the use of AI-enabled motion-capture technology and automatically chart patient information.
